Getting to know: Urban Kroflic

Strenghts: 

• Looks very confident on the court, never hold back from shooting or putting his chest on the defense. 
• Decision maker. He played as a handler in most of the P&R actions and he takes responsibility in most of the ≤4 second positions. He controls the tempo of the game and operates his teammates on the court. 
• Decent court vision. Finds open looks, dishes out assists and feeds his teammates well. (5.4 APG in FIBA U18 EuroBasket)
• Dangerous outside shooter. Kroflic drops threes with high percentages almost every competition he participated. 
• His shooting abilities allow him to spread the floor and make him a big threat on transitions / open court. 
• Has good handles, fast on open court and can go coast to coast quickly. 
• Attacks to the close outs very well and using pass or shoot fakes very wisely to beat his defender. Goes to the rim very flexibly and cunningly. 
• Has good shape of body and well-developed muscles. He can finish with contact around the rim and uses his body well. Uses his hips really well to get behind the defender when he drives. 
• Follows the ball and has good anticipation + positioning on rebounds which makes him 4th in the RPG ranking of U18 EuroBasket even he is a shooting guard. 

Improvement Areas: 

• Even though he moves well lateral on defense, sometimes he loses concentration on help defenses and struggles on close outs. This makes him an average defensive player. So, he needs to be more aware of defensive actions. 
• Lack of midrange shots are too apparent in his game. 3-pointers and lay-ups are the first options for him in the half court.  Addition of midrange jumpers after P&Rs and floaters from outside of the paint will expend his repertoire. 
• Sloppy passes, excessive dribblings, and forced drives into the paint result in turnovers, which diminish his efficiency.
• Takes risks on defense by attempting steals.

Overall, Urban Kroflic is one of the most promising players of his generation and he displayed that one more time in the FIBA U18 EuroBasket. Slovenian prospect has unique size and physicality for his position. Therefore, he can fill the every spot of the stats sheet; big threat behind the arc and solid finisher at the rim, grabs bunch of rebounds and dishes out assists. He can make a difference on both ends of the court with his scoring abilities and athleticism.
